International Laboratory Services (ILS) is a market leader in the provision of contract laboratory testing services in the UK, providing a wide range of UKAS accredited, GMP compliant chemical and microbiological testing to both the food and pharmaceutical industries.

ILS is an independent laboratory situated in Shardlow, Derbyshire. We are a busy, modern facility catering for a varied and wide client base. As with most companies, our clients require a fast, efficient and accurate service, therefore we need staff to help us achieve this.

 


 

Laboratory Technician x 3 Positions


Pathogen Laboratory, Internal Operations

You will be based in the Pathogen Laboratory and be responsible for the transfers and streaking of pathogens and other related tasks and testing are completed accurately within the Laboratory environment. You will ensure that all testing is performed correctly and in compliance with Standard Test Methods and Standard Operating Procedures and ensure that all areas within the Pathogen Laboratory are maintained in a clean and tidy condition.


Previous experience of working in a Pathogen Laboratory environment would be advantageous, with a full awareness of the requirements of UKAS, Standard Test Methods and Operating Procedures. A full training programme will be provided to the right candidate. You will be expected to have a good general education with A’ Level/GCSE passes A – C or equivalent and a very good understanding of science is essential for this post. You will have good IT and communication skills along with a keen eye for detail.

This position is 35 hours a week on a rolling shift pattern working 4 days on, followed by 4 days off. The hours are 8.30 am until 7.00 pm with a 30 minute break, including weekends & bank holidays

Leading Technician – (Ref 1253)


40 Hours per week (8.30 am - 5.00 pm Monday to Friday)
Media Department - Internal Operations

You will be based in the Media Department and assist in the management the preparation of microbiological culture media, preparation of pre-poured plates and the operation and running of the autoclaves. You will assist and deputise for the Media Manager, in their absence, and to supervise and assist in the management of all media staff.

Duties will include:-

• ensuring that all the areas within the laboratory are maintained in a clean and tidy condition at all times. You will be working in a fast paced environment.
• To ensure the throughput and production of all media and the running of the media department in an efficient manner.
• To ensure that all media production is carried out in direct accordance with instructions.
• To ensure a full awareness of the requirements of UKAS, Standard Test Methods and Operating Procedures
• To observe all rules relating to Health and Safety.
• To record data in accordance with current Standard Operating Procedures.
• To ensure that any equipment used is operated as described in the relevant Standard Operating Procedure
• To ensure that enough media is available to meet demand.
• To be familiar with all the equipment used within the department and ensure that calibrations and validations are carried out when required.
• To ensure that the autoclave area runs efficiently and in accordance with the Standard Operating Procedures

To be successful in this role you will have previous experience of supervision of staff and experience in working in a laboratory environment is desirable. You will be expected to have a good general education with GCSE passes grades A - C. A good understanding of science would be an advantage. You will have a keen eye for detail, good organisational skills along with speed and accuracy skills. Full training will be offered to the successful candidates.

40 Hours per week (Weds, Thurs, Fri, Saturday and Sunday)
Media, Internal Operations

You will be based in the Media Laboratory assisting with the preparation of microbiological culture media and the preparation of pre-poured plates and carried out in direct accordance with instructions. Duties will include ensuring that all the areas within the laboratory are maintained in a clean and tidy condition at all times. You will be working in a fast paced environment.

Previous experience of working in a Media Laboratory environment is desirable and you will be expected to have a good general education with GCSE passes grades A - C. A good understanding of science would be an advantage. You will have a keen eye for detail, good organisational skills along with speed and accuracy skills. Full training will be offered to the successful candidates.

This position is 40 hours a week worked over 5 days (Wednesday to Sunday - 8 hours per day)
