ILS- International Laboratory Services is a market leader in the provision of contract laboratory testing services in the UK, providing a wide range of UKAS accredited, GMP compliant chemical and microbiological testing to both the food and pharmaceutical industries.
ILS undertake food testing and pharmaceutical testing for over 600 clients both in the UK, Ireland and the rest of the world.
ILS is located in Shardlow, Derby, just four miles from junction 24 of the M1 and just off of the A50 in close proximity to East Midlands Airport.
We are currently seeking to appoint an Operations Director who will have management Responsibility for heads of Operations and Sales functions.
Role:
As Operations Director you will take overall responsibility, within the limits of company policy, for all aspects of the administration, organization and management of ILS Ltd. This includes all resources, human and physical, which make up the various departments.
Qualifications and Experience:
• At least a BSc in Microbiology
• Fluent in English
• Previous general or senior management experience
• Solid line management background
• Commercial acumen
• Well networked
Key Activities:
• Budget delivery for the ILS operation.
• Assessment of the business in order to establish where we should place more emphasis, where we should build the business further as we move into 2012
• To act as Deputy Site Manager for the Shardlow operation. ILS is currently approximately 140 employees, and we have in total around 450 employees on site in Shardlow.
• To lead the ILS management team and encourage collaboration
• To support Harlan and ILS strategy and ensure that the two are complementary
• To grow the ILS business profitably and focus further on relationship management
• To be an engaged and indispensible member of the Shardlow leadership team
• To implement a full costing and capacity system in the laboratory to allow more accurate pricing and discount structures
• To manage the Business development team to implement target setting, strategic account set up and improve sales by at least 10% in year one
Candidate specification:
Essential
• Successful P+L management in an operational environment managing a large team.
• An excellent understanding of the drivers of laboratory quality
• Proven experience of managing managers across manufacturing, sales and logistics operations
• Excellent communication skills and ability to relate to all levels of the business
• Demonstrated capability to successfully and profitably grow a business
• Proven change management experience
• Ability to understand and work towards divisional objectives; seeing the “bigger picture”
Desirable
• Experience in lab, analytical and scientific services
• Strong operational background
• MSc in Microbiology an advantage
• Networking skills to co-(sit) on various scientific committees
• Familiarity of working in a global matrix structure

QA Assistant
35 hours per week, Monday to Friday
(Fixed Term Contract for 12 months)
We are looking to recruit a QA Assistant in our busy Quality Assurance
department. This is a challenging role to make a significant contribution to our well established unit.
The successful candidate will be primarily responsible for the administration of the internal calibration programme ensuring traceability to national standards and for the quality control of Pharmaceutical Test Reports. Minimum qualifications for this position are GCSE’s or equivalent in a science subject or Mathematics and a good command of English. Full training will be given. The successful applicant will need to exhibit a sound working knowledge of Microsoft Office programs particularly Microsoft Word and Excel. Good writing and analytical skills are essential along with the ability to communicate effectively.

QUALITY ASSURANCE AUDITOR
35 hours per week, Monday to Friday
Due to increased workload we are looking to recruit a Quality Assurance Auditor in our busy QA department.
The successful candidate will be primarily responsible for conducting and recording routine and special-purpose internal audits to assure compliance with regulatory requirements such as UKAS (United Kingdom Accreditation Service) and GMP (Good Manufacturing Practice). Other duties will include assistance with the quality control of Pharmaceutical Test Reports, internal calibrations and operation of the document control policy. This is a challenging role requiring good record-keeping and organisational skills as well as excellent literacy and numeracy. IT skills would be beneficial.
The position requires a good general education with a minimum of 5 GCSE passes (or equivalent) including English, Maths and Sciences at Grades A - C. ‘A’ levels in Maths and Science are desirable.
Whilst general laboratory and/or QA experience is essential, a working knowledge of UKAS/GMP in a contract laboratory environment would be a distinct advantage.
The nature of this role demands an enquiring and logical mind with excellent attention to detail.

Laboratory Technician
ILS is currently looking to recruit a Technician within the Pharmaceutical Microbiology Laboratory. Dealing with many leading Pharmaceutical and Health Care manufacturers, the activities of the section include Sterility Testing, LAL Testing, Antibiotic Assays, Preservative Challenge Tests, Microbial Limits testing and Method validation studies. You will be expected to have a good general education with ‘A’ Levels (or equivalent) in science subjects. Previous experience is desirable but not essential. The position is full time, 40 hours a week on a rolling shift pattern working 4 days on, followed by 4 days off. The hours are 8.00am to 6.30pm with a 30 minute break, including weekends and bank holidays. Interested?
