Food Testing Division
Food testing has been conducted by ILS for almost 40 years and during this time ILS has gained a vast knowledge, technical expertise and experience within the fields of food microbiology and food chemistry testing. As such there can hardly be a food product or raw material that we have not tested or analysed.
Our purpose built food testing laboratories are amongst the most impressive, fully equipped facilities in Europe, catering for a wide range of food analysis. Continual expansion and investment in new technologies, instrumentation and laboratory personnel has led to our scope of UKAS accreditation to be one of the most extensive in the UK.
The food testing laboratories are operational 7 days a week to ensure a competitive, efficient and quality service. Our sample collection service is operated free of charge subject to a minimum collection and dependent upon location.
The wide range of food testing conducted within the food division at ILS is carried out within our two food testing departments.
Food Microbiology - Testing
At ILS our food microbiology department routinely tests 7,000 samples a week for a wide range of bacteria and pathogens. The majority of our food microbiology testing is covered by our UKAS Accreditation, although not exclusively to this scope, we are also TLAS, M&S and DEFRA Approved. In addition to this, we can be flexible and work to your preferred methods. The list below is just some of the microbiology testing we undertake.

Food Chemistry - Testing
The food chemistry department analyse a wide range of food and drink products and raw materials for food nutritional and food labelling purposes. The food chemistry laboratories are extensively equipped with a full range of instrumentation, including; GC, HPLC, GCMS, Dionex, AA Spectroscopy, NMR fat analysers, AOAC Fibre and (Dumas) protein analysers. Our food chemistry testing includes:
