Water Testing Laboratory
In your Food Factory or Manufacturing Site, water should be considered as a raw material and should be tested and analysed accordingly.
Water can be a source of spoilage bacteria, which can cause off taints in your food products and can also facilitate the spread of pathogenic micro-organisms.
Water testing is not only good practice, but it is required by national law, auditing bodies such as BRC and EFSIS and also your customers.
The UK legislation states that 'water should be wholesome for food production purposes', this means that the water you use should conform to specific chemical, physical and microbiological specifications.
Generally at food production sites only microbiological water testing will be undertaken with the exception of pH, water temperature and organoleptic or taste quality. Chlorine levels may also be monitored at some production sites. Other chemical or physical testing is generally undertaken by the local water companies, who you will need to contact and they will supply those water testing results for you to evaluate.
At ILS we can undertake a variety of water testing on food factory water and potable water the testing is UKAS Accredited. These tests are listed on our UKAS Scope of Accreditation and include the following:
Total Viable Count at 22oC
