ILS Limited Meat Speciation & Fish Speciation

At ILS meat testing, meat speciation and identification is undertaken using ELISA or PCR laboratory tests kits for various types of meat. These kits can be used for meat testing and sepciation to test on both both raw and cooked meats and meat products.

The latest Food Regulations specify that all meat products, both cooked and raw must indicate the types of meat used in the product. Therefore meat speciation testing is an essential requirement to verify claims made on product labels.

ILS has been UKAS accredited for Meat Speciation by ELISA for 12 years for the following species:

Cow

Pig                      

Chicken

Sheep

Turkey

Horse*

 

 

 

 


 

Fish Speciation

Like the regulations with meat speciation you are also required to provide information about the type of fish in a product. The testing method uses DNA and there are eight species of fish that can be differentiated.

ILS can provide results on the following either cooked or raw products:

Cod

Pollock                    

Hake

Whiting

Coley

Salmon

Haddock

Trout
